After decades of rapid development, China's plastic products industry has undergone tremendous changes. Especially in recent years, the industry has continued to develop amidst structural adjustments, transformation, and upgrading, maintaining a fast growth momentum. Both production and sales volume rank first globally, with the output of plastic products accounting for approximately 20% of the world's total.
The number of large-scale enterprises (those above a designated size) in China's plastics processing industry increased from 12,963 in 2011 to 15,350 in 2017. While market competition intensified, industry concentration further improved. During the same period, the main business revenue of these large-scale enterprises grew from 1,558.374 billion yuan to 2,280.836 billion yuan, representing a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 7.93%.
In 2017, large-scale enterprises in the national plastic products industry cumulatively achieved a main business revenue of 2.2808 trillion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 6.74%. This growth rate was 0.63 percentage points higher than that of the previous year.
The revenue scale of China's plastic products manufacturing market reached 2.44 trillion yuan in 2017. As the plastics industry matures and the precision of plastic products improves, the revenue scale of China's plastic products manufacturing market is projected to exceed 3 trillion yuan by 2023.
